DYNAMICS OF FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT AND ITS MAIN TRENDS IN GEORGIA

Summary

After gaining independence in Georgia, certain steps have been taken to attract, encourage and protect investment, to create and improve an appropriate legal framework.. As a result of the adopted laws in 1995-1998 by the Parliament and the amendments made to them, legal guarantees for the implementation and protection of both local and foreign investments were created, which contributed to the systematic increase in the attraction of foreign investments in the country.

The paper analyzes the main trends and peculiarities of the dynamics of foreign direct investment according to certain stages of reform and development of the Georgian economy. It focuses on the recent decline in foreign investment in the country, such as the completion of large-scale investment projects during this period and the problems caused by the Coronavirus pandemic from 2020. It also emphasizes that we need to properly understand and learn to coexist cohabitate with any virus, not only in terms of preventing, and dealing with its spread, but also in terms of managing and overcoming the economic crises and shocks caused by it.
